Wada: We Have a Good Team

CHIPOLOPOLO coach Wedson Nyirenda says playing against big names in the Super Eagles side has motivated his players to do well on Saturday. Zambia and Nigeria clash in the penultimate Group B match of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers in Uyo state.

Zambia lost the first leg 2-1 at home at the beginning of the qualifiers, then drew the second match in Cameroon 1-1. Chipolopolo revived their campaign last month via back-to-back 3-1 and 1-0 victories over Algeria to occupy second position in Group B with seven points, just three points behind Nigeria.

Cameroon has three points and Algeria has one. Zambia has set up camp in Ghana ahead of the crucial encounter to acclamatise to the weather conditions. But Nyirenda has been dealt a blow with injury to in-form striker Brian Mwila who scored a brace in the 3-1 humiliation of Algeria in Lusaka.

“When plan ‘A’ does not go well, a coach should always has plan ‘B’, so we had already prepared ourselves for any eventuality like this one. I think the replacements Alex Ng’onga and others are doing a good job and can do wonders for the team,” Nyirenda said from Accra.

“I think we have to understand that since I came we have been building, I believe in taking things within a short time. We have a good team at hand. We have good energy, we don’t have names. Everyone is fighting. We are doing well, we beat Algeria back to back, and we are looking so positive. Nigeria has very highly placed players who play in Europe and so is Algeria, they are number one in Africa and they featured a very strong team. Yes they beat us 2-1 at home but this is a very different team from the team they beat. Yes it will be interesting game in Uyo, they have the big players: [Victor] Moses, the Kelechis and that is motivating to my players,” said Nyirenda.

According to Daily Post Nigeria, Zambia are sweating on the fitness of two of their key players, goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene and striker Patson Daka, after both players pulled out of their morning training session in Abuja on Thursday.

The Chipolopolo had their first training session in Abuja before heading to Uyo, the venue of Saturday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier ‎against the Super Eagles.

First-choice goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene left the training session few minutes after it started, clutching onto his left thigh in agony.

Mweene apparently injured himself, when he made a full length dive to save a shot during the team shooting practices. The Mamelodi Sundowns shot stopper had to watch the rest of the session from the sidelines.

In-form striker, Patson Daka, was next to depart the session halfway as the Red Bull Salzburg forward ‎suffered what looked like a knee injury, shortly after the team started light jogging.

Daka was examined by the team doctor and after a while, had to resort to training alone.

Mweene and Daka form a combination that eliminated Algeria in their backyard a month ago. The goalkeeper saved Riyadh Marez penalty before the striker scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over the hosts.

Power Dynamos striker Alex N’gonga’s family home in Chimwemwe Township in Kitwe has been attacked by thugs following Zambia’s 1-nil loss to Nigeria in the 2018 World Cup qualifier match.

Copperbelt province police commissioner Charity Katanga says a group of people emerged from a white Toyota Landcruiser ACC 5492 and maliciously damaged two roofing sheets with stones.

Ms. Katanga says the group accused N’gonga of missing scoring chances that crashed Zambia’s hopes of qualifying to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

She says police have launched a manhunt and a case of malicious damage to property has been opened.

And N’gonga’s mother Charity has told Muvi TV news that she feared for her life when she heard another person threaten to destroy the house completely.

Lwandamina: Maintain The Chipolopolo Squad

FORMER Chipolopolo coach George Lwandamina says the current national team should be maintained and nurtured as it has the potential compete on any international stage.

Lwandamina, who is currently in Tanzania with that country’s Super League giants Young Africans, said current Chipolopolo coach Wedson Nyirenda had performed well and needed to have his technical team reinforced with qualified personnel. The award-winning coach said under Nyirenda, the team was destined for greatness hence the need to maintain it.

“They come out strong and if maintained, we will be able to compete favourably in any front, though still with some areas of improving,” Lwandamina said.

“The coach [Nyirenda] has done well and he deserves better…but he needs to strengthen his bench not just people who can sing praises to him but who can disagree to agree.”

He noted that Zambia’s wingers in the 1-0 loss to Nigeria in the World Cup qualifier on Saturday did more defending than attacking.

“In that game, I don’t know what the instructions were but at the look of things in this particular game unlike the previous ones the boys in wings did a lot of defending then attacking and the few times we went forward we looked dangerous. In the previous games our attack was on the flanks where we used speed,” Lwandamina said.

He further said Nyirenda should be allowed to continue as coach, adding that there were local coaches who could assist him.

“Let’s just give him support and like I hinted, all he needs is strengthen his bench. We have so many people with successful and traceable records to supplement his effort,” said Lwandamina.

“Only problem with Africans is that we don’t want to work according to each other’s strength; all we do is get people who will be showering us with praises. Whites form strong companies according to each other’s strength and they are not better than us. It is high time we recognised that if we are to compete with them. Look at [former Chipolopolo coach Herve] Renard and Patrice [Beaumelle]; when Renard recruited Patrice, he didn’t even know him neither had they ever met before. But Renard went to the federation and asked for the best physical trainer and they chose Patrice for him and they have since formed one of the strongest items of coaching in Africa.”

Chiluya: Injury Teaches Us To Appreciate Moments On Pitch

PROSPER Chiluya says injury teaches one to appreciate every moment on the pitch.

Chiluya, who plays for Pafos FC of the eastern Mediterranean island nation, Cyprus said injury was part of the football game.

He said he had made it through injury and encouraged anybody struggling with injury to keep the faith and keep pushing forward.

“As a football player, I’ve learnt to just deal with injuries. It’s all part of the football game. I’ve dealt with injuries as much as everybody else. People have dealt with worse injuries than I’ve dealt with. It’s all part of the game, all part of getting that tackle,” Chiluya stated on his Facebook page. “I must however say that injury teaches you to appreciate every moment you have on the pitch. I’ve had my share of injuries throughout my career so far. It’s humbling. It gives you perspective. No matter how many times I’ve been hurt, I’ve learned from that injury and come back even more humble and way more stronger. Coach Benjamin Upalo Siwale (Kafue Celtics Football Club) once told me ‘The more injuries you get the smarter you get’…I will play smarter and wiser going forward. I will do better for my club and for my country.”

Luanshya Copper Mines, the sponsors of Roan United football club have fired club Chairman Chisoni Miti for financial mismanagement. Miti was dismissed after complaints from stakeholders who included the supporters trust and the Mine workers union of Zambia. The mining firm has finally decided to fire Miti after stakeholders presented evidence of financial irregularities at the club.
Sources at the club have disclosed that Luanshya Mine have since appointed Operations Manager Pearson Pearson Mwale to replace Miti. Mwale will be assisted by Sectional Engineer Perpinoh Chikumbi. The mining firm has also appointed senior procurement officer Steven Mwansa as Treasurer.
The supporters Trust and the Mineworkers Union of Zambia had complained to the sponsors that Miti was running the club like his own personal project and he had repeatedly refused to appoint a treasurer as he was handling all the money issues alone including the paying of salaries, bonuses and all allowances to the players.
“Mr Miti took advantage because the Chinese have no interest in the day to day running of the club, they simply have no interest in football so he took advantage and he was using the money the way he wished. Some of the players told us that when being paid they could sign for K6, 000.00 but only get K4, 500.00 said a source from the supporters trust.
The sources further revealed that the players have on several occasions dragged Miti to the National Pension Scheme Authority offices in Luanshya after they discovered that their deductions were not being remitted.
“Luanshya Mine had also allowed Roan United to lease some of the properties in the sports complex and Miti was personally collecting rentals from the tenants but the money never went to Roan united, there were just too many irregularities and the man had to go”, said the source.
Miti, a cashier at Zamtel Luanshya was appointed Chairman in 2014 with the mandate to guide the once stylish Roan United back to supper league football.
The newly constituted committee has requested for an upward adjustment in the sponsorship package if the club is to win promotion back to the super league next year. Luanshya Mine gives Roan United an annual grant of K1.65Million per annum

I Cant Recall Spitting At Player – Kapembwa

NATIONAL Assembly coach George Kapembwa has defended his action to spit at Nkana winger Fred Tshimenga in a fierce MTN/FAZ Super League week 22 match at Nkana stadium on Tuesday, saying he may have been provoked.

With the match tied at 2-2 in the 79th minute and the home side in dominance, a verbal exchange ensued between the Assembly technical bench and Tshimenga who was taking a throw-in near the visitors’ dugout, resulting in one of the assistants being sent off.

Kapembwa, in anger, spat at Tshimenga which caused uproar on social media when the incident was replayed several times on SuperSport television.

Asked if he did not fear sanctions for his actions, Kapembwa claimed he did not spit at the player until he was reminded that his actions were captured by TV cameras and replayed several times.

“I don’t remember spitting at a player. Sometimes we are in the limelight you didn’t hear what that player told me but if I do something then I will be penalised… if it really happened [spitting], you don’t just do that unless you are provoked,” said Kapembwa in post-match interviews.

“Sometimes in football, it is just like that. I have always said it is very difficult for a coach to imitate…we want to grow in this game but when decisions are questionable, you just have to react.”

Kapembwa was in charge of his second game since he took over Assembly and said he was confident his team will survive relegation despite lying 16th on the table.

And Chambeshi said he was increasingly worried that his side which was in the title chase was getting inconsistent results at home.

He said he was happy with his executive’s move to reinforce weaker departments, especially the defence which has been giving away silly goals.

“It is worrisome but I am happy that the executive have acquired a defender for us from Kenya. I hope he will have a good time…Nkana is a big team, we need to challenge for the league. As coaches, we know what points you need to win the league and what points to be demoted. We have to fight and see where we can end the league,” said Chambeshi whose side moved into 4th position on goal difference.

In the earlier match, Kitwe United produced a stellar performance to beat Power Dynamos 1-0 courtesy of Emmanuel Chabula’s first half goal
